The first day of summer seems an appropriate time to announce that the Canal Society of New York now launches a blog called Dispatches from the Samuel Center. We’ve just not cracked a bottle of Finger Lakes sparkling wine across the keyboard.
Please explore the drop-down menus and test out the buttons to the upper left. This blog links to all the other CSNY online sites. Each post has an area where you can leave a comment or question. Come along for an inspection.

All the previous posts you see here were used as we developed the prototype in early June. We thought the categories were the most logical ones, but you might have another idea about this, maybe something to add. We expect to make improvements. For example, we’re figuring out how to make the images display larger. This is a work in progress, and your energy can make this grow better.

We look forward to your comments. Comments have to be moderated; this allows the blog administrator to stop spam, commercial, or otherwise inappropriate comments from posting.
If you have great photos of Canal Society and Canal-related activities, please send them along with a short explanation of what the image(s) might show.
The “we” here includes Will Van Dorp. You might be familiar with my blog tugster. I’m based in NYC but grew up near the Canal in Wayne County. On the tugster blog, I’ve posted thousands of photos, contemporary and historical, of the Canals of New York and many other water-related places. On tugster blog, virtual guides to the waterway and the bikeway across New York State can be found here.
