Full disclosure first: I’ve never traveled the Champlain Canal north of C-6, nor have I traveled north of Whitehall. Might this photo be between E3 and E4?

The 1927 vessel featured in this post, Inspector II, was part of the Barge Canal fleet from 1930 until at least 1957. Built as a single engine yacht, it was repowered as a twin screw yacht in 1948. Lots of other interesting details on the card below.

To digress, there was a previous vessel called Inspector, later Inspector I, purchased new in 1909; a post on that boat could be forthcoming.
Using info from the card above, I’d say we’re looking at

deckhand, engineer, captain, and cook, and I’d wager this was taken around the time NYS acquired the boat.

Could that be the same captain, second from left, surrounded by NYC officials and dignitaries as well as crew? Who might the dignitaries be?

In a separate batch, I found more images of Inspector II, but we’ve moved a decade or two forward into color film. The dock is identified, as is the

boat.

I’m assuming this was in the 1950s although before 1958.

Judging by the movie camera on the tripod, I’d imagine this was a high-level contingent coming ashore on Inspector II.

I’d love to hear your take on this boat, these images, and anything related.

All photos/images from the archives of CSNY. Anything speculative is mine.
