Happy New Year 2025 from the Dispatches crew of the Canal Society of New York, and even more consequential,

Happy and prosperous new century for inland waterways connecting the ocean to the Great Lakes.  We look forward to sharing our collection of NYS canal history and events in this key year.

This photo shows tugboat Winthrop, an 1893 build from Wilmington DE.  The 77′ x 17′ tug operated as a steam tugboat until 1954.  Can anyone identify the lock she’s approaching here?  Another photo of Winthrop can be seen here.

As this dawn is still beginning, let me also invite guest comments and commenters  to contribute to this blog.
