Many thanks to Joe Kessler, Ray Kuntz, Nancy Ragus, and W Dan Hulchanski for sending along these photos. Congratulations on being the first correspondents to contribute to Dispatches. Let me take this opportunity to explain why I chose to post these.
Joe sent the photo below of the new pedestrian bridge in Brockport. New infrastructure along the canal is certainly of interest to our readers, and this is a nicely-framed image.

Ray sent this image of Spencerport’s Union Street canal lift bridge rehab taken in 2020. Again, it’s canal infrastructure, and this is a contemporary version of many of the 19th and early 20th century infrastructure posts already on Dispatches.

Nancy sent these photos along from festive days in Fairport. Besides the canal, boats, and other infrasturcture, there is festivity, with people enjoying special events.

These are perfect examples of photos we’d like to include on Dispatches.

And finally, from W Dan in Fort Plain, here are some photos of night as well as day activities that bring people to the canal. The NYS Canals 200 anniversary stage as well as the lock house with #15 on it . . . these are excellent examples of canal side photos in this centennial year, people on stage as well as

people in the audience enjoying Water Music earlier this month.

I hope my comments are instructive. I certainly encourage you all to send photos along to this email address: canalsocietyofnysphotos@gmail.com
Need a hint as to content? There’s currently a bike tour across the New York State passing all manner of beautiful canal side scenery, which would make a fantastic part of the subject of your photos. Photograph away and have fun!
