Join storyteller Steven Panayioto (pen name Nikos Steves) on Saturday, August 23, at 2 PM at the Samuel Center for Canal History (38 Rochester Street, Port Byron, NY) when he presents “From Forgotten Wonder to Destination Wonder.” A video portraying the origins and evolving pursuits that make the Erie Canal system an enduring legacy for New York state.
The 45-minute presentation begins with a documentary about the origins of the Erie Canal, shot 20 years ago and recently updated to showcase some of the canal system’s new uses, also he will include some experiences making the film.
“Years ago attention to the Erie Canal System went on hiatus. But visionaries would have none of it and made citizens aware of her majesty. Ever since, entrepreneurs and volunteers have used imagination and bold strokes to expanded the uses of this twenty-first century waterway for the citizens of today and beyond.”
