Seen passing Manhattan this morning and northbound, it’s Thomas X Grasso, the newest NYS Canals full-size newbuild canal tugboat in over 90 years. Grasso was built by Blount Shipyard in Warren RI.
Thomas X Grasso is a name well-known to members of the Canal Society of New York, an organization he joined in 1966 and was President of for more than four decades. See more here.
In the first half of the 1930s, Syracuse and Reliable entered service, the previous holders of that “newest full-size” description.

As of this posting, Grasso is nearing the TZ Bridge. Progress can be followed on Marinetraffic.com or another tracking app. No ETA at the canal entrance in Waterford NY is known.
Again, thanks to Daniel. Any errors, WVD.
