Since the last Dispatches update on Lois McClure was 11 months ago, it might be time for the latest.

She’s getting some repairs, which so far has meant power washing and removal of rot.

After that task is complete, she’ll receive some new paint, so that when the truck comes to move her to the Heritage Park, she’ll be as pretty as when new, as here.

Seeing Lois McClure out of the water allows an appreciation of her construction details like the joints above and the centerboard trunk below.

Many thanks to correspondent Mike Riley for these video stills. And that chair in the shade provided by the Lois, that affords Mike some relaxation, a perch from which to contemplate the Seneca River portion of the NYS Canals between efforts.

And a reminder to Canal Society members and others who wish to contribute Seneca Chief photos for Dispatches, as a way to contribute to the documentation mission of the Canal Society, Seneca Chief will begin its journey from Buffalo to NYC in exactly 10 . . . that’s TEN . . . days!

The date for the the move of Lois McClure has not yet been set.

Conquest folks would like to welcome the Seneca Chief at Mosquito Point if we could get some idea of the timing on Oct 3. Any clues? ty Joni Lincoln, conquest historian

    1. Thx for asking, Joni. My suggestion would be to get in contact with the lock 25 folks. Whatever time they get to lock 25 would influence what time they’d be at your location. In my experience, lockmasters are friendly and knowledgeable. I hope you get photos that you’d share with us at Dispatches.
