It’s been over six years since I’ve transited locks O-2 and O-3, too long to visualize, but I’m quite sure this shot is looking west. I’m certain that that large brick building on the far side is no longer there. Maybe someone looking at this image can identify the building and what was manufactured there.

But here’s another question: how many people do you see in this photo?

Add them up.

Here’s a closer-up of the right side of the photo above.

I take it these workers are building forms where concrete will be poured later?

These four [or five] men might be entirely unrelated to the dam work.

Can anyone help interpret these details in this photo?

Many thanks to Bill Hecht for cleaning up this image.

One response to “Dam Building Oswego Canal at Fulton”

  1. Thanks to Jacob Maloney, Oswego County Historical Society Museum assistant for identifying the large building in the background. Jacob writes: “In the Oswego County Historical Society local postcard collection, there’s one postcard image taken pretty much in the same location as this photo. I’m fairly certain it’s the American Woolen Mill (originally named the Fulton Mill). Check out the 1958 journal publication for an article written about the American Woolen Mill by Mrs. Gladys E. Morley on our NY Heritage page.”

Also from NY Heritage, i found this image: https://nyheritage.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/p16694coll147/id/7558/
