Here’s a sample of the impressive work Bill Hecht does cleaning up/restoring historic photos in the CSNY collection. The photo is entitled Erie House in the file I received; that title as well as the fact that I’ve seen other photos of Peter Van Detto make me conclude that this is another image of Mr. Van Detto, a short account of whom can be read here. Here’s what I’ve never understood . . . how did an Italian immigrant get a family name that sounds so Dutch?

I have a challenge for some readers who might know more about the Van Dettos and who have creative minds. Imagine you are interviewing Van Detto for Dispatches “Faces and voices” series. How might he answer the three questions? I’m impatient to see some responses.
Thanks, Bill, for your photo work.
