I’d love to study CSNY’s paper version of the 1907 map above, created by the Department of Public Works, Canada. For an interactive version of a section of the map above, click here. Was there something or some event around 1907 that provoked interest in canalizing the Ottawa-Mattawa-Lake Nipissing-French River route, i.e., the route of the voyageurs? Is there a record of concern that NYS Canals and Buffalo/New York City would be adversely affected by this project? I’ve never heard of this proposal before.
