Can you spot the differences in the two black/white photos of lock 17 below? What ideas do you have on the dates?

As you make your list of differences, have a look at these next two photos from 1957 or 1958.

Clearly the photos above and below were taken in difference seasons.

Below is the first photo above. It dates from 1924.

And below is the second photo from the top, as it appeared in color and uncropped. I took it in 2018. The differences are many in the gate itself and in the office/workshop structures to the right of the lock. The tugboat disappearing to the lower right was then called Rebecca Ann, now Seaway Jennifer.

A half an hour or so earlier, that was Rebecca Ann pushing dredge barge Oyster Bay into lock 17. For more photos of this lock-through in early October 2018, click here.

Below is the statistics plate on E17, sometimes referred to as having a guillotine gate. Note the weight of the gate and the counterweight below. I suspect those weights have remained the same despite all other changes, right?
