Last weekend brought two great performances of Joni Lincoln’s “Clinton’s Ditch: The Story of Building the Erie Canal,” a play at the Canal Society of New York State’s Samuel Center for Canal History.

Thanks to all who attended! If you didn’t attend, the show will be repeated next weekend, June 27 at 7 PM and June 28th at 2 PM and 7 PM.

The play celebrates the genius of DeWitt Clinton and the perseverance of the American Spirit! The completion of this remarkable link to our wide open West in 1825 was against all odds and most political reckoning.

Characters include Jesse Hawley, a flour merchant from Geneva, NY, who became frustrated with the length of time and decay of goods in shipment to and from New York Harbor. After going bankrupt he was sentenced to house arrest. During that time he wrote 14 essays proposing the Erie Canal.

Nathan Winkler portrays Hawley, a recent graduate from Port Byron having performed in several other productions. Joel Glimpse, from Montezuma returns from the 2017 play as Deputy Benson.

Tickets are $10, available at the door.
