Some names here are of interest. E. & H. T. Anthony was the largest supplier of photographic supplies in the 19th century. A Becker–Alex but not J. G. — made stereoscopes. And if you were in Little Falls looking west today, you might see none of this sweep, because of all the trees.

Here’s the stereoscopic card, and

here’s a close-up of the view. The Mohawk River has those curves to the west, and the 19th-century canal flowed separate from the river, off to its left, or south. The invisible flow of the river through the middle of the card powered the mills down there.

Does anyone seeing this know if any of the larger buildings, e.g., church, are still extant? Is there a location of the heights north of town where a similar photo can be taken?

Dispatches is always looking for correspondents reporting from all locations along the canal.
