Five days ago I postedthis image of the DPW tugboat called Queen City, so I was surprised during a work break this morning scanning the archives and seeing Queen City reappear, or are they the same boat?

Some areas east of lock 26 [looking west] today look like this, as seen from the deck of Colonial Belle, and . . .

this immediately to the easxt of the lock.

In this detail, a crew of four are standing at the base of the derrick.

Queen City stayed on the MVUS registry until 1935. But again, is the boat below the same one as above? Was it repowered and therefore has a different stack?

I’m not sure of the date the color photos were taken. Anyone know where it was dismantled? The fact that it stayed in service until 1935 means that it overlapped canal tugboats such as Syracuse and Reliable as well as Governor Cleveland, Governor Roosevelt, and Urger.

I’d love to hear whether you think these show the same boat.

One response to “Queen City August 4, 1921”

  1. Very likely the same tug… The two wide planks above the deep rubrail closely match the bow view in your earlier posting.
