Many thanks to Bill Hecht for sending along this colorized image of the village of Cayuga, circa 1900. If you’re unfamiliar with Cayuga, it’s at the north end of Cayuga Lake and tied into the Erie Canal via Cayuga-Seneca Canal and the Mud Lock.

Two rowboats, aa tugboat, a barge, and a sidewheel steamer made for a busy day. Bill suggests the steamer might be Frontenac, in which case this image would pre-date the 1907 disaster.

There’s even a trolley (?) on land. I hope some readers can add to the specifics of this photo.
